Mark Rothko (Colin Moody), a brilliant artist. Ken, his new assistant. A New York studio like the depths of a cell. The smell of paint. A canvas waiting for a splash of red. Rothko bullies, snaps, abuses, teaches. Ken listens, casually observes, causes arguments. Together they make and mix paint. Together they create art. Art for the new Four Seasons Restaurant. Is Rothko selling out? Or simply baring his soul?

It's a beautiful, beautiful piece of work, it's very muscular, it's very dynamic, but it's also about life. The two men get covered in paint, the canvas gets covered in paint, the floor, the studio - it's evocative of the way Mark Rothko is feeling about his art and his life and also about the beauty and the nature of his work. RED is a very exciting, brilliant play, deserving of its wonderful reputation.
DIRECTOR MARK KILMURRY

"A totally convincing portrait of the artist as a working visionary...It’s a measure of the play’s success that it makes you want to rush out and renew acquaintance with Rothko’s work."
THE GUARDIAN

"It is a convincing, perceptive piece...finely tuned...a play that deals intelligently with the trials of creativity…its psychological torsions come thrillingly alive."
